Samsung Galaxy Tab Review

As you know if you follow my tweets.. i bought an huawei and returned the next day :( because it didn't do video calls.. i have a baby daughter and video call is crucial... i don't know why because it has 2 cameras and 3.5g .. well moving along i bought an Samsung Galaxy tab because it was my ONLY option i wanted to make video calls so.. i dont like the ipad i hate apple yes i do, there are better things than an apple with a dent on it on the market and that is the Samsung the screen is just in a word GORGEOUS and the touch and feel its perfect for pocketcloud and of course angry birds :) it last about 3 days i only have it for 9 days now but i don't regret it one bit, my carrier sold me a locked version Optimus Galaxy Tab with 3.5g and i done quite a lot of traveling and used VMware View EXTENSIVELY and it works fine if you buy the pro version then you can pinch and zoom.. no antennagate the camera for taking pictures i've taking almost 400 pictures now.. yes i am a recent father you know how it is... the first you just want to take pictures... and the quality is samsung is excellent. i need to say that you cannot push it too far i downloaded a 56 mb pdf and try to read it and it crashed it is not a netbook... and the samsung appeared and it took me 20 minutes to see the solution. just press the power button 10 seconds... and it will reboot, and always locked it one time it appeared on the screen forced upload and the android logo.. i bought a pouch and the pouch pressed 3 buttons apparently thats bad.. just press 10 seconds...
it has gps 2 cameras wifi a microsd slot mine is 16g with a microsd of 16 gb and i can upgrade to 48g just buy an 32 gb microsd and thats it..
apps to have:
angry birds
pocketcloud
flashlight it turns on the led light in the back very usefull
amazon kindle works perfect..
photoshop express yes it works fine
Astro file manager
connect bot it does ssh i have a cisco network so i can vpn and reboot or do all things.
network discovery very usefull
compass
gps status
Vplayer beta plays all files mkv wmv really works well
all these apps are free...
these are not...
i really liked the "Ndrive" it has everything you need and it as a really good coverage of those roads that the tomtom does not...
as a GPS in the car its the best in the world.. the screen is perfect you need to buy an screen protector mine is "Puro" screen protector it cost me about 9.99€  and it realy helps with the sun glare.
overall it is the best gadget ever...

Huawei Tablet ideos S7

first the reason here in portugal the ipad as finally being sold so i got my hands on 4 devices...
the ipad 16g + 3g bluetooth 599€
the viewsonic double os windows 7 and android 2.2 3g wifi bluetooth 599€
the toshiba folio wifi 349€
huawei ideos s7 wifi 3g calls gps bluetooth dual camera 349€ and 199€ with optimus 1 year contract
zte v9 249€

i decided to buy the huawei ideos because i simply cant aford anything else for 199€ and 15€ a month with 3g unlimited its a deal breaker i've been using for 23 hours almost non stop
screen... im not happy with the screen is not as good as the ipad nor by far worst than the toshiba or the zte.
the weight and dimensions it causes some trouble because it is first a phone i bought a bluetooth handset.. because calls are good but in speaker mode and that is inconvinient..
android market was the deal breaker the toshiba does not have this function.
i cant make video calls in this i dont know why...
calls are good i can hear perfect and no signal loss or antennagate..
the cameras are bad in dark light it does not have a flash so...
now the good stuff
the pocket cloud works fine except the fact that the keyboard sucks my life because i almost broke the phone and the problem was in the app windows server 2008 and pocket cloud has a bug that you type and it types a "space" i got arround the bug in 30 minutes.
games are good except some games are in vertical mode and i like horizontal mode.
the huawei kernel is simple and you can do almost anything you want except install a new one.
it has multi touch, gps works fine, the keys on the left are press keys and it has a low quality feel but work fine.
it is heavy and the battery is not great... and i feel like i will return the product because:
it dosent make video calls and i making video calls for 4 years now in my htc tytnII
it dosent connect to the vpn so i can configure my exchange.

7 rule

Portuguese saying: o saber não ocupa espaço(the knowlgede does not occupies space)
my 7 rule: the knowledge occupies the space of ignorance .(Marcos Silva 1993 "me")

migration from hyperv cluster to vmware

i have 90% of my infrastructure virtualized windows 2008 r2 enterprise in hyper v is a pain in the... to virtualize you have to install the new 4.2 converter standalone... every thing else just fails my advice is do a cold clone not a hotclone...
i have used hyperv but know this the performance is nothing near what you can achieve with vmware but i cost about as much...
i cut about 14000 watts per hour of power of my bill and i turned off one air conditioner unit.. thats green it enough for you?
and planing to migrate all 120 desktops to thin clients progressively...
my 5 rule: first use what you got then use what you can then buy new and redo all over again...

Exchange 2010 sp1

i hate the sp1 update...
i had to reboot the servers 15 times because the sp1 does not come with the updates for the update(yes really) you have to download some updates and reboot the server consequence:
maintenance window shot to dead i had predicted 3 hours it took 12 hours... reboots search and download the update copy paste the urls...
it sucks...
cmon its the next ipad ipod touch era.. not the msdos era of dman powershell damn i hate powershell...
i have EXCHANGE SERVER 2010 ENTERPRISE and i have to know some powershell...
ah... almost forgot use a good backup restore solution when things go bad in exchage your better be prepared in exchange 2007 it was a relative easy procedure to restore a single mailbox believe me i done it a couple of times in exchange 2010 its a murder... its powershell
warnings:
do not deactive an account you can only activated in powershell and its a killer..
do not change the name of the mailbox... or else your screwed...
if you have exchange 2010 virtualize do a clone and test a complete recovery like a complete failure...

Cisco

well..
Cisco there is a serious matter, S. Conrado BMW, MINI Portugal has been very damage with Cisco to say the least history just some of the things i remeber:
we have a CUCMBE MCS 7828i K9 BE and the motherboard failed no phones for 3 days and we have a contract...
the day that the system was finally somewhat finished the CUCMEBE died..
i bought 3 phones with license and the licenses never shown up..
i bought an Cisco IP 7941 the phone came with the screen cracked up...
i bought 40 licenses and only 10 worked the email came from Cisco and 3 licenses i couldn't activated them.
i had my CUCM for 6 months in demo mode... and the license never came in the packaged
my cucm server took 8 weeks to come and i had a MCS Server with a motherboard damaged and ad to coope with it...
i had my firewall ASA 5100 replaced 3 times and the last time came without the security plus license the asa 5100 rebooted spontaneously...
that is just the tip of the iceberg i have all my network router switches phones there are all CISCO...

VMware

we have a VMware Vpshere enterprise with  3 servers as cluster and 2 servers with a windows 2008 r2 enterprise with sql sever 2008 r2 enterprise we use Navision and an IBM AS400 system.
i am a CIO with about 50 users and some of them i have a windows 2000 professional and most of them have Windows XP and i dont know if i want to upgrade or migrate most of them to openthinclient its a great server..
it runs really nice in vmware.. i have about 10 servers virtualized and 7 "hard servers" its a IBM BladeCenter E with 7 blades 4 HS21 and 3 HS22 fully loaded and 1 DS3400 with and EXP300 with 24 disk of 300gb 15k. and a ibm tape TS3100 l4 with 14 tapes 800gb and arcserver 15 fully automated backup.

thin up your fat desktops

if you have vmware cmon on the vmplayer its free and its good now...
go to http://www.openthinclient.org/ and download the applaince for vmware just deploy the ovf its super easy...
then go to the apps and you will see an rdp deskop link just publish it...
go to any pc or use a vmware player to test it out boot via pxe and it will boot a openthinclient os you can use terminal client for windows and save a lot of money in licensing and pain in the neck "oh my system dosent boot"
its a good backup for a pc to boot up thinlcient os and then use a terminal sever for users to have some sort of backup for them to work on and you if you want to realy save money just buy some thin clients its about 50 bucks a chip pc or a wyse... its preloaded with an os but you can boot from the openthinclient os...
